We have a pair of tickets to give away to the Copper Skillet Competition this Thursday January 6th at 5pm. It’s an Iron Chef like competition run by the International Association of Conference Centers and The Conference Center at NorthPointe was chosen to host this year’s eighth annual competition. If you would like to enter please leave a comment. The winner will be chosen at random at noon on Tuesday January 4th and notified by email.

One of the entrants for this year’s competition is NorthPointe’s Sous Chef Tricia Gardner (pictured below). She will compete against six other chefs from around the country and the winner of the competition will go on to represent the United States at the world competition in March. The competing chefs will be given a mystery basket of fresh produce, grains and three proteins. Using basic staple ingredients, the contents of the mystery basket and two of the proteins the chefs will create an entree in front of the live audience. They will be given 15 minutes time to plan their dish and then 30 minutes to cook.

The judging panel also includes some local talent with Chef Richard Blondin from The Refectory and Chef Joan Ludholtz from The Columbus Hyatt Regency’s Executive. Judging criteria includes originality of the creation, presentation, taste, flavor combinations and cleanliness of workstation.

Tickets can also be purchased at the door on the evening of the event. The January 6 event kicks off at 5pm and includes a wine tasting and a buffet dinner featuring specialities from the 2009 Champion Executive Chef Mark Moran. Tickets are $60 and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

The International Association of Conference Centers is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting understanding and awareness of the conference center industry and to giving member properties the tools necessary to provide an exceptional meeting experience.
