I have been familiar with the work of the Mid-Ohio Food Bank for sometime, but it was only recently that I discovered that we have a food pantry in our neighborhood. NNEMAP is short for Near Northside Emergency Material Assistance Program. It was founded in 1969 in the days before the neighborhood was known as the Short North. I’ve been a bit neglectful in not writing a full post about Captain Cream Cheese – I’ve been a big fan of this little neighborhood gem since it opened back in January. Captain Cream Cheese operates out of the same tiny parking lot hut that houses Mikey’s Late Night Slice, next to Bodega on High Street. We had an interesting evening at Middle West Spirits open house, a new micro-distillery that has opened in the Short North. Sadly they are not allowed to sell any of their product yet, but they hope it will be available in May, and we will be eagerly awaiting it. This is the first micro-distillery in Columbus and it is very exciting that there will be a local artisanal product available. The Short North has great options for eating and drinking at all times of the day and night. Here are some highlights and some of my personal favorites: Rigsby’s Kitchen is somewhere to go for lunch when you want to be able to hear your lunch companion and have excellent food and service. It would be a perfect venue for a lunch meeting and seating is always immediate. Although Rigsby’s can be an expensive choice for dinner, they are excellent value for lunch, particularly the blue plate special, where you get soup or a salad and half a sandwich or […]
